Motherboard Guide
The foundation of your PC that connects all components together. Choose wisely based on your CPU, features, and future upgrade plans.
Form Factor
The size and shape of the motherboard, which determines compatibility with computer cases. Common form factors include ATX (standard), Micro-ATX (smaller), and Mini-ITX (smallest).
Chipset
Determines features, overclocking support, and CPU compatibility. Higher-end chipsets (e.g., Z790, X670E) offer more features and better overclocking capabilities.
Socket Type
Must match your CPU's socket (e.g., LGA 1700 for Intel 12th/13th Gen, AM5 for AMD Ryzen 7000 series). Using an incompatible socket will prevent the CPU from fitting.
Memory Support
The type (DDR4/DDR5), maximum capacity, and speed of RAM the motherboard supports. Higher speeds and capacities are better for performance and future-proofing.
Expansion Slots
PCIe slots for graphics cards and other expansion cards. Look for PCIe 4.0/5.0 x16 slots for GPUs and M.2 slots for fast NVMe SSDs.
Connectivity
USB ports (including USB-C), networking (Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E), and audio connections. More and newer ports provide better connectivity options.
